This pretty cottage has been tastefully converted and provides the perfect place to explore Sandwich and all the surrounding area. With free parking on the premises, a rarity in the town, and with pets allowed, you really are set to wander the cobbled streets and enjoy the atmosphere of the town. Sandwich is a hidden gem with lots of independent shops bars and restaurants but it also has plenty to do and see within a short drive away. There is even a water park just outside the town for those adventurous types!
The cottage has two bedrooms, one with a double and one a twin along with a well appointed bathroom. Although it is in the heart of Sandwich, its secluded position means it is peaceful and quiet particularly while you enjoy the garden.
Sandwich holds a wealth of cultural heritage being one of the Cinque Ports. The town is recognised as one of the best preserved medieval towns in the country and is now in ownership of its own Magna Carta. Sandwich is awash with things to see and do, much of it enjoyed on foot without needing to get back in the car. The ancient courtroom and museum can be located in the Guildhall. It really is a delight with timber-framed houses leaning over narrow streets. There are quaint cafes including an Italian pizzeria with wood fired oven, offering delectable bites breakfast until dinner. Follow the town trail taking in the historic sites, then relax on the quay with its cosy pubs and good eateries. Pop into the No Name Shop to devour a fresh pastry and there are even the remains of a Roman Fort that can be reached by river bus or head out to the estuary to spot seals. The quayside is charming with walking trails on the flat which run along on a relaxing 30 minute walk to the sand and shingle beach of Sandwich Bay or you can even walk through the footpath across Royal St George’s Golf Course, home to the Golf Open Championship to reach the beach!
Inside the town you will also find no less than four historic churches. The bells you can hear quietly chiming from around the town. The narrow streets with timber framed listed buildings carry you back in time. You’ll also find a delicatessen, a grocers and many places to eat and drink. Events are also held frequently in the centre throughout the year. Sandwich is a bit of a secret getaway location to hide away from the busy world and enjoy local living.
Just outside the town is the White Mill Rural Heritage centre and for those adventurous types, White Mill Wake and Aqua Park. Great fun for all ages and most abilities!
Venture less than 2 miles and you can reach Deal a smugglers port town, here you will find another Championship golf course. And of course that bit further you have Canterbury and the ‘isle’ of Thanet with lots of stunning beaches.
